Bisun cave lighting systems
Now in pre-release testing - proper spot-beam LED units
for Petzl Duo headlamps. Efficient, bright, and easy to fit.
More details soon, or contact me for latest information.
The main Bisun light units are LED-based reflector replacements for
Oldham/CEAG headsets, which are designed to be bright, long-life, robust,
and flexible, giving a penetrating spot beam, and an excellent wide beam.
Bisun units can be supplied pre-installed in a refurbished headset
with a battery box and adaptors/connectors for AA and flatpack batteries,
with the option of using rechargeable packs.
Alternatively, they can be supplied as bare reflector units for people
with an existing headset/battery system
There are four models currently on sale, all based on the same proven
layout of spot and flood LEDs. Designs continually evolve to make use
of changing LED technology, and to incorporate user feedback:
Firstly, the P32 - the latest evolution of the original twin-beam design
from 2004. The P32 is built for maximum flexibility of output in use.
It was designed from the outset for extended expedition caving, giving
the option of serious endurance on alkaline batteries (to around 7x24h
days of constant usable light from one 4.5V alkaline pack) but is also
great for all kinds of sport caving and digging. The electronics driving
the two LEDs give the choice of two or three power levels per beam, and
allows for the use of either beam or both beams, allowing the user to
mix spot and flood light to suit the situation.
For a simpler-to-operate light, the M2 unit is also available. The M2
can be set up to operate in various power/beam configurations, but controlling
it in use is exactly like controlling a regular twin-bulb headset (ie
there are two settings in use, each corresponding to one of the 'on' positions
of a headset switch).
The P32 and M2 units work in all kinds of Headlite arrangements (NiCd,
NiMH, alkaline, Li-Ion), and in home-made light units using mining headsets
and 3.6-4.5V power. They also work excellently in FX3s, giving much brighter
light, better beamshape, and seriously extended runtime.
The M2 is also suitable for Oldham lead-acid lamps.
Finally, there are the fixed-power-per beam X2 and Z3 units, ideal for
centre or club use.
The X2 is specifically designed to run in FX2 or DX2 systems, with independent
and bright single-power beams and simple operation. The power draw from
the battery is around half that of a regular main-beam halogen bulb, and
the light output is 2-3x higher, whether running the bright spot beam
or the excellent flood beam. Unlike halogen bulbs, even on a declining
battery, an X2 will give a long tail-off of usable light.
The Z3 is a unit for use in FX3/DX3 and Oldham lights, or other 3.6-4.5V
lights, giving good light and simple operation in a competitively priced
and efficient unit. The Z3 is the successor to the X3, providing extra
flexibility at the same price.
